Don Black- Kanab Tour GuideDon has lived in Kanab for the last fifteen years, but has always considered southwestern Utah his home. Don’s grandparents homesteaded on the Arizona Strip in the early part of the 20th century, where his father was born. Don inherited their love of the country. Don has been driving the backcountry roads all over the region for over forty years and is still finding new places to explore. He also enjoys hiking and camping. Don spends much of his spare time doing volunteer work on BLM lands in Hog Canyon near Kanab so that people will be able to use the trails to see our beautiful area. Don is a natural fit for the job. “ I have a severe and incurable case of the red sand syndrome. If I’m away from my beloved red rocks for too long I start to go into withdrawal and must get back home”. |

Kurt Robinson- Kanab Adventure GuideBorn and raised in Kanab, Kurt grew up around tour guides. Some of the first guides to reveal Kanab’s bounty of ruins, slot canyons, and limitless scenery to the visiting public were his Grandfather Merill and Uncle Grant, owners of Robinson Ranch Tours. Even some of the old classic western movies were staged on Robinson family land, the old sets later making nostalgic tour stops. As a teen Kurt continued learning the guide trade with family at Sanderson’s River Expeditions, a pioneering rafting company in the Grand Canyon. As a young man he took on his own adventures as Assistant Boatman for Grand Canyon Expeditions out of Kanab. Kurt has also gained several years of off-road touring experience with various outfits over the years. With most of his life spent outdoors, Kurt has developed a keen eye for photography. You can see his Flickr stream here. His pictures are also featured on local websites and in Kanab exhibits. Kurt joined Dreamland Safari Tours in 2012. We are very lucky to have this Kanab Tour Guide born-to-be. |
